What owners ask us.
What is RaeyLink?
RaeyLink is AI loss prevention for retail stores. It connects to the CCTV cameras a store already has, watches for item concealment in real time, and is designed to send staff a short video clip while the customer is still in the store. It does not use facial recognition.
Is this about shoplifting?
Mostly, yes. Loss prevention is the industry term for keeping stock in the store, and keeping staff safe while you do it. Cameras record what went wrong, but nobody can watch every aisle while serving customers. RaeyLink's part is timing: it tells the right person that an aisle is worth a look while there's still time to offer help.
Will it stop shoplifting?
We can't promise that, and be wary of anyone who does. RaeyLink helps your team notice more of what your cameras already see, while the customer is still in the store. What happens next is up to your staff.
Do I need new cameras?
Usually not. If your IP cameras or recorder can share an RTSP video stream, RaeyLink can use them. We check this on the first call, before anything is installed. RaeyLink itself runs on an on-premises edge computer that we set up in your store.
How are alerts delivered?
As a notification in the RaeyLink app, on your phone or whichever device you choose. Each alert includes a short clip with boxes marking the action, so staff can see what happened in a few seconds.
What if it gets it wrong?
It will sometimes. It might flag someone who was just putting their phone away. That's why it only ever alerts: a person on your team watches the clip and decides what, if anything, to do.
Does it get better over time?
Yes. RaeyLink keeps improving after it's installed, so it gets better at telling everyday shopping from something worth a look.
Does RaeyLink use facial recognition?
No. RaeyLink looks at body movement and what happens to products, such as an item being picked up, not returned and then concealed. It doesn't identify people, build face databases or keep watchlists.
Will my staff have to confront anyone?
No. An alert just means someone should take a look. A person on your team reviews the clip and decides what to do, and we suggest walking over and asking if the customer needs help. Victoria Police's shop-theft advice says the same thing: attentive staff help discourage theft, and staff shouldn't physically confront a suspected shoplifter.
What are my privacy obligations if I use RaeyLink?
RaeyLink doesn't use facial recognition, doesn't create biometric templates and doesn't identify individuals. Retailers remain responsible for their own privacy, signage and surveillance obligations, and we provide guidance to help them meet them. This isn't legal advice, and we're happy to walk your advisers through how the system works.
Is RaeyLink a CCTV installer or alarm company?
No. RaeyLink is not a CCTV installer, a camera company or an alarm system. It's the AI software and infrastructure that works with the cameras you already have.
